Stop Social Pollution! Keep Your Baggage at Home!

We must work on our issues so that we don’t drive other people around us crazy. I say this because every time people have to get together in any social situation, we as people tend to bring all of our past experiences, biases, fears, etc., onto people when they have not done anything wrong or even know they are the target for something that someone else has done in our past, so just make sure you are not imposing your issues onto others. If you have a crappy car, don’t have an issue with a person who just bought a car. If you are dealing with weight issues, don’t hate a person who is thin and whopping down two double cheeseburgers. If you are struggling with college, don’t have an issue with someone who can take a full college schedule, work fulltime, and do volunteer work. Those were just some examples of how people harbor negative feelings towards others for things they should not, because the question is: should they not buy a new car, because yours is in bad shape? Should someone go hungry, because you have a weight problem? You get the gist. I think if people would just come to social situations with a fresh mind and without all of this baggage, our human interactions would improve tremendously.

Let’s take Tiger for example, he has been playing golf since he was 2-years-old—check-out this link if you don’t believe me: http://www.kewego.com/video/iLyROoaftJna.html --and never really had a chance to just be a regular person. Everyone had/has such high hopes for him that he never really got the chance to just be Tiger. I am not saying that his father made him do something that he did not want to do, but when you are a kid you want to please your parents, and when you see them light-up as a kid when you do something they like, you take that as a reward and it will naturally make you want to do it more. So from the time he was very young, he had to be very focused and almost perfect. He never had those rebellious teenage years, he probably never just dated whomever he wanted just because he wanted to, never got a chance to do much of anything that a normal person would get to do. This may be what led to his alleged affair with this mistress(s)—which got a ton of media attention after his recent car accident. I truly believe that this mistress was an escape from him being the Tiger Woods we all think that we know—almost close to perfection as you can get. He probably could just be himself in every way possible with this woman, and that was probably a good feeling for him. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying what Tiger did is right or excusable. I am just saying what possibly may have led to this affair he had with this woman. I come to this theory, because even though he is the world’s #1 golfer and has a net worth close to one billion dollars—first athlete to ever accomplish that task—he never really looked happy to me. Being always watched is something that the average person cannot truly grasp. I mean we can say that we do and really try to mean it, but most don’t understand what that may feel like. Just imagine having a minor car accident and then everyone starts to go through your personal business. You would get very angry very quickly. Think of having any little mishap and then it is published in your little community that you have. I would think that would be enough to drive anyone insane. This is the con of being a celebrity. We know all the pros—wealth, fame, and power—but believe me I don’t think their quality of life is that much better considering they have to give-up so much of themselves to be one, and the salary that they get is only a small compensation for that. One might say that celebrities should not pursue being a celebrity if they can’t handle the pressures of it. That is a valid point, but understand that some people just become a celebrity—like Tiger— and I don’t think that they ever realized that they could become as famous as they would eventually become. People may think: "why would Tiger do something like this?" "This seems stupid of him to tarnish his image like that", and I am just giving you all a few reasons of why he may have chosen this path.

Anyway, let’s look at another example of this: Whitney Houston. She started her career at 19, and even though she pursued her career, I don’t think that she could have ever imagined the she would become the highest selling female artist ever and all that comes with that. Clive Davis—Arista Records—made her into this ice princess, and she was just a shy girl form Jersey who wanted to sing. He always had her wearing these ultra classy gowns, hair, and singing these songs that may have not have been what Whitney would have chosen, but it worked, because she became a mega-star overnight. She just had the it factor: beauty, talent, and likeability. Check-out the following links to see how amazing she was back in the day when she first started:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiJ_2zQYUFg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA2GJDfSYj0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1Y5Ln9PzVw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYFHAvULvJ0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IFwZE_Nt1w

I spend a lot of time studying recording artists—because I want to be a record producer one day—and this is pure perfection. If you really listen to her early music, most would conclude that she was the world’s greatest voice. She effortlessly belts-out those live performances with such poise, elegance, and talent for 12 singers. Her music is enough to make a grown man cry—something someone wrote on her Youtube comments. One would ask why would she want to waste this gift messing around with Bobby Brown. Again, I think that Bobby was an escape for her. She did not have to be this perfect “ice princess” around him, and then when everyone said she could not be with him, she rebelled. It was like she knew he probably was not right for her and her career, but she stayed with him to show people that they did not have control over whom she dated, married, etc. Having this gift meant that she had to give-up a lot of who she was, and I don’t think that she could have imagined at 19 that pursing a singing career would have entailed all of this. Most people think that Bobby is to blame for her problems, but I don’t think that is the case. If everything was going right in her life, there would have been no way that someone like Bobby could have come along and screwed it up. Bobby was just a symptom of something else.

As far as Whitney doing drugs, again, she wanted an escape from being “Whitney Houston”. I don’t think that she really cared about ruining her voice by doing drugs and smoking cigarettes—which damages your vocal chords and makes your voice raspy. She knew that smoking would have an adverse affect on her voice, but it did not matter to her—she did not want her life anyway. Now she can’t even sing half as good as she used to. She knows that and everyone else in Hollywood knows it as well--she just threw it away.

So in conclusion, I hope this may give people some more insight on why celebrities make these—what may seem to us—stupid mistakes. They just want a break from who they are, because they can never get that break in the little bubble in which they live. Just think of having a job, and you really like it at first, but as time goes on, you don’t like it anymore and you want to quit, but now you have to keep this job you have for the rest of your life. Welcome to the life of a celebrity. If you are Tiger, Whitney, Britney, etc, you don’t get to have that option once become famous. You are stuck with it forever, right-up until you die. Please keep this in-consideration before you pass judgment on these people. Don’t get me wrong, I am not condoning what they do, I am just trying to let you see it from a different perspective.
